Libya has officially joined the race to be on the list of countries to host the next African Nation. The North African country is bidding for either the 2028 or 2032 Africa Cup of Nations.
In its proposal, the country plans to use eight stadiums across the country, with the 45,000-capacity Tripoli International Stadium and the 40,000-capacity Benghazi International Stadium serving as the flagship venues.
This is coming after the country’s last appearance in the tournament back in 2012. The last time Libya hosted the Cup of Nations was in 1982, where they managed to reach the final of the tournament. In 2017, CAF awarded the hosting rights to Libya, but the decision was later canceled due to security concerns.
Libya’s best performance in the Cup event was a final against Ghana in the 1982 tournament, where they lost. If their bid is successful, they will be looking to surpass that achievement.
